2020 Wrap Up Report

Thanks for making 2020 a great year!

Well 2020 was just a WILD ride wasn’t it!? Even with the pandemic & having adoptions shut down for about a month and a half, we were really productive and had a great year of adoptions! We were able to help 61 cats find their forever homes! Of that there were 7 bonded pairs, how cool is that??

We also took our break during the initial shut down to deep clean (like really, really deep clean), paint, refresh, and make even more amazing our adoption room at the Downers Grove PetSmart. Many thanks to the volunteers who helped with every step of this project and the management team at PetSmart Downers Grove who encouraged us and helped us along the way! Speaking of volunteers, it was SO COOL to add 10 new people to our team! We’ve also expanded our volunteer opportunities to include new foster homes, fill some in-person “cat time” sifts, and added several ways to virtually/distance volunteer as well. Our in-person volunteers, even with a month and a half “off” from kitty care, logged 1260 volunteer hours.

Our new foster homes helped us take in and care for the 31 cats who came from owner relinquish or stray situations in 2020. All together, they racked up an amazing total of 2358 foster hours. The cats and kittens who were in their care are so thankful for their time and love, and so are we!

As of right now, we have 27 active volunteers, but as more and more people are looking for ways to volunteer remotely and donate skills instead of time, we are happily adding more great people to our group.

We were able to transfer in 27 cats of all ages from our friends at DuPage County Animal Services in 2020 as well. DCAS really does care for the cats that come into their facility, and we’re glad to have a great relationship with them and to help out the cats in need who might need more attention or socialization, or a different environment than their facility.
