Cats in the Media: Cat Games!

Garfield, Puss in Boots, The Chesire Cat, Sylvester, the Cat in the Hat, or the Pink Panther. Even before our society was obsessed with celebrities, we had celebrity cats. We have been posting cats on our walls since the dawn of man - on cave walls, pyramid walls, and now our Facebook walls. Cat-obsessed books and television, like Phoebe singing to us about Smelly Cat, has now become the entire World Wide Web swimming with cute cate photos and videos. The internet has given us our beloved Grumpy Cat, Colonel Meow with his amazing 9-inch fur, and Fatso the Keyboard Cat, but where does the cat obsession end? Well, I hope it doesn’t!

Now, as the social media trends have expanded into the gaming world, there are endless options to play cat-themed games, whether you prefer card games, board games, or video games – there are options for you! These are my personal favorites right now, but this is barely scratching the surface. There are many options out there for those looking for cat-themed game nights.

Board Game: Calico

Calico is a puzzle, tile-laying game of quilting for cats!

In Calico, players compete to sew the coziest quilt as they collect and place patches of different colors and patterns. Each quilt has a particular pattern that must be followed. Players also compete to create color and pattern combinations that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also able to attract the cuddliest cats!

This game is for 1-4 players and takes about 30-45 minutes to play.

Card Game: Cat Lady

In Cat Lady, players are cat ladies, part of an elite group of people including Marie Antoinette and Ernest Hemingway. During the game, you and your fellow cat ladies will draft cards three at a time, collecting toys, food, catnip, costumes, and of course lovable cats. But watch out! Make sure you have enough food for all of your feline friends, or your hungry cats will subtract points from your score.

This game is for 2-4 players and takes 15-30 minutes to play.

Video Game: Stray

Lost, alone and separated from family, a stray cat must untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten city. Stray is a third-person cat adventure game set amidst neon-lit alleys of a decaying city. Roam the world, defend against unforeseen threats, and solve the mysteries of this unwelcoming place inhabited by curious droids and dangerous creatures.

See the world through the eyes of a cat and interact with the environment in playful ways. Be stealthy, nimble, silly, and sometimes as annoying as possible with the strange inhabitants of this mysterious world.

This game can be played on Playstation 4, 5, or PC.
