Happy National Cat Day!

National Cat Day is celebrated on October 29. It was created by Colleen Paige to bring awareness to the number of cats that need to be rescued each year. Cats remind us that just when you think they’ve lost interest in you, they’ll turn around and melt your hearts. When it appears they’re too busy staring out at passing cars, chasing nylon mice, and sending tiny multi-colored balls to their under-the-refrigerator graves, they’ll somehow let you know that their very world revolves around you. In celebration of our furry friends here are some fun facts about cats!

  • Cats were once worshipped by Egyptians. Considered sacred by the ancient Egyptians, many pictures and statues of cats have been passed down through the millennia.

  • Scientists once created special cat music to show that cats actually enjoy getting their groove on. The researchers wanted to prove that cats like music, but only if it was the ~right~ music. In their experiment, the right music was composed of sounds "within the frequency range and with similar tempos to those used in natural communication [between cats]."

  • There are about 88 million pet cats in the United States, which makes them the most popular pet in the country. This one does not come as a surprise… as we know our cats can be the light to our life!
