Angie Abegglen
People near and far have lasting impacts on the cats in CAR’s care. While we will always have a need for local volunteers including fosters, people also volunteer remotely in a number of ways. Meet Angie Abegglen, Graphic Designer who volunteers virtually from San Diego, CA. She began sharing her creative skills with us in December 2021 and, in a short time, has designed several digital and print pieces:
Photos and graphics for collateral like thank you cards for our supporters
Posters for events such as PetSmart Adoption Week
Info sheets for each kitty in our care, complete with QR codes!
Swag including stickers
Currently, Angie is working on a fun concept - a tote bag to send with adopted cats to their forever homes. The bags will hold veterinary records, adoption forms, favorite toys, and a promise that CAR will always be the cats’ safety net. While she dreams up graphics, she is also networking with vendors to find the perfect materials and pricing.
How were we fortunate enough to find Angie? She found us! For years she tried volunteering for San Diego animal shelters, but there were no vacancies. While talking with a CAR volunteer friend, it clicked! She could put her talents to work from afar. She now enjoys a deep connection with CAR and its beloved cats. As a Wisconsin native, it is also a meaningful tie to her Midwestern roots.
On a recent work trip, Angie was thrilled to learn she’d be staying four miles from CAR. She is pictured here at the shelter with some of her artwork. “I didn’t realize how much visiting CAR and seeing the cats and my art would impact me,” she said. “I feel an even deeper connection!”
Angie grew up having cats and dogs. Her earliest memory of being an animal lover is climbing into a hutch with a farm kitten she lovingly named Misti Christi, because “of course it had to rhyme!”
At home, Angie is Mom to Bear and Bernie who she adopted from a San Diego shelter. Bear, a mellow tuxedo, loves hugging arms and is named for his panda bear looks. Bernie, a sweet and sassy tortie (aren’t they all?), earned the tagline, “Tony Hawk”, uhh “Toni Hawk”, for doing expert side kicks off the wall when she gets the zoomies.
Angie, you complete CAR. We’d like to thank you for “drawing’ people to our cause through your thoughtful use of design, color, humor, and heart!
